7:53pm: I've been thinking a lot lately about rational decision making. I went to Skepticon earlier this year, and saw Julia Galef's talk (one of several great ones -- check them out). Since then I've been reading up on things like the concept of akrasia. It's exciting to me to think that there may be a way of rationally approaching motivation problems, because I've struggled with them all my life.

Skepticon was rad, by the way. I had a great time. I loved going back to Springfield and seeing it again -- I lived there when I was 5-10 years old.

9:51am: Reboot.
My last previous post was in 2008. What has happened to me since then? Well, I got a Master's degree. Not an MFA like I originally planned, but an MS in Ecohydrology and Watershed Management. I work for the USGS as a hydrologist. It's a good job and I'm happy with it.

My art practice has fallen to the wayside for the last couple of years because of grad school. I'm trying to get back on that track, but it's not so fast.

I moved in with my boyfriend in 2009, and things are good on that front.

I got diagnosed with ADHD when I was in grad school -- I was getting chest pains from anxiety, and so I was looking for treatment before I exploded or fled the program. Huh. This is still one of those things I don't know how I feel about, but all I can say is that when I got meds, it was like finally getting a pair of glasses after being nearsighted all of my life, and I don't think I could have succeeded without them.

I've gotten into a few new interests: grad school got me into the 'bad' habit of TV, which I never really watched before. Right now I am catching up on Doctor Who and Mad Men. I went on a Joss Whedon spree over the last couple years (although I haven't seen Dollhouse yet).

I also got more into bicycling and bicycles. I have 4 bikes now, including one I took apart and rebuilt and painted from scratch. I did my first bike tour a couple of years ago. That was cool. I couldn't get anyone to go with me, so I was solo.

There's probably more I could say, but I can't think of it. Happy New Year!

1:44pm: Some Quick Notes From Work
Actually, I have a lot I should write about, since things are busy, but that's when I find it hardest to keep this thing updated. But here's a rundown:

1. I'm moving out of my beloved apartment -- my landlord won't fix my window and I don't want to deal with the drama that he and his wife live. I'll be moving in with a friend of mine. My feelings are mixed, mostly because I really enjoy having my own apartment -- but the place I'm moving to has a lot of things I like, so it's worth a shot.

2. Work is fine with the exception that I haven't gotten paid yet, and I still haven't been paid for the last week of my tutoring job, so I'm in money panic mode. No money, no gas in my car, no food in my fridge. I'm supposed to get paid next Tuesday. I'm hoping I get the tutoring check soon.

3. More stuff is happening with the Amancio Project. I'll try to make that a post of its own at some point.

4. Likewise, I should post something about Copenhagen (the play I'm directing next semester).

Also, I owe daowajan an email in Spanish -- I should do that this weekend, in between moving, and, er, moving.
